For my mom, the non-appreciating of the Stampin' Up! stuff mom, that I've talked about many, many times here. Do you think she will like it? Do you think she will feel bad for me again because she thinks I 'have' to make handmade gifts even though I've told her for 10 years that I 'love' to make handmade gifts? Do you think she will keep the gift cards and give the book back to me in a month or so like she does everything I give her? Sounds sad, huh?!
After this many years, I just have to laugh about it and keep doing what I want to do and not worry about it! In fact, I'm kind of amused by each reaction as I watch her open it or hear her on the phone tell me 'that's so cute, honey, what do you want me to do with it?'. She just doesn't get it. Gotta love her!
I used the Mini Pocket Book tutorial available on the right hand side bar or the tutorials page of this blog.
Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Very Vanilla, Holly Jolly Designer Series Paper

Becky, Way to cute! Love how you incorporated the Pics of the kids with the Gift Cards! Hopefully, she won't give it back to you this time!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute. A great way to present gift cards.

I just love this! I was preparing something like this for my DD's birthday but your idea is way cuter than my accordian wallet plan. I'll have to borrow your idea if you don't mind. I can appreciate what you are saying about giving to someone who doesn't have the same passion. I'm sure she'll love this!
ReplyDeleteBecky, love your pocket book. Thanks for sharing about your mom I thought my mother was the only one who didn't appreciate paper crafts.
ReplyDeleteBecky this is sooo cute. How tall is your mini pocket book? Please advise. kt
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. My dad is exactly the same! I used to make lots of mini books for him, but he just looks once and tosses it aside. My sister asked me to stop, as I would often add pictures of my mum who died over 6 years ago, and she thinks it makes him sad!!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea though and will make something similar for my son.
Thanks for your always wonderful ideas.
Mary
Well, if your mom gives it back, I'll take it! I don't even want the gift cards. That is so stinkin' cute!!!! I love your Christmas goodies!
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I love this!! Great Job!! Anita (one of your many fans)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Karen G ... I'll take it - no gift cards necessary. LOL I absolutely love this little book. I am going to make these for Jovi friends to hold their tickets in for the coming tour - decorating them with pics of the band. Then after the show they can use to store stubs, pics, mementos, etc. SO STINKIN' COOL!
ReplyDeleteps I get the same "oh, isn't that quaint (read: useless, stupid, etc)" too from some family members. *rolls eyes*
Becky, this thing ROCKS! I'm definitely going to be CASEing it. And how could she give it back with the pictures of her handsome grandons in it! (Let's hope, anyway, right??!!)

ReplyDeleteWhat courage you show to keep trying after so many years - good on you. When faced with reactions such as these, I remind myself that it is the creating that I love so much and, much as I'd like the recipient to be thrilled with what I make, ultimately what they do with it is up to them. I think the book you have made with the photos of your boys is lovely - not to mention the generosity of the gift cards!! Lucky for you you have many many people who can show your crafty creations to who will do the appropriate amount of gushing!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, and I've already purchased that tutorial from you....perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll be your mom anytime you want to give cute gifts like that...hahaha
My mother's reaction the first time I gave her a distressed card: "Honey, I hate to say this, but did you know this paper is old and torn and dirty? Maybe I should buy you some new paper." lol
ReplyDeleteDear Becky,
ReplyDeleteWe have the same mom! I gave my mother some beautifully stamped (if I do say so myself) cards to use for her friends and she gave them back to me for my birthday. We are just different people, that's all. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.

I guess we all have someone in the family that just doesn't 'get it'. For me its DH... he just doesn't understand. I do love this little book. I've got to get crafting... you've inspired me to keep creating no matter what others think! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI so wish I was your Mum, Becky!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the idea!!! And I had to laugh about your mum as she sounds just like my mum used to...
ReplyDeleteDebbie M
I find it just hysterical about your Mom! OMG, does she know who you are? YOU are Becky Roberts, queen of anything papercraft and idol to many of us in the card making world! LOL Just makes me laugh everytime you post comments about Mom! Hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
ReplyDeleteShe is very cute, my mom is the same.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your projects.
This is gorgeous, you can be my daughter I won't give it back to you. In fact I will come play with you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the gift book idea.

Becky, this is beautiful!! Some people "get it" and some don't . It's all good. The rest of us appreciate the fact that you share your creations with us here on your blog! Keep up the awesome work!!!

Oh my gosh! What a cute book! I love it; hope your mom does, too. : ) Thanks for sharing the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to present all those gift cards! Your Mom is so lucky to be a recipient of it.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea I am clicking to get the details. tfs, merry christmas
ReplyDeleteOMG Becky. You mean I'm not the only person who's mother's eyes glaze over when I talk about papercrafting? I used to get the same reaction from my mom, but lately I get my kids to help me make something. This seems to mean more to her. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteBecky, this is beautiful - I love the idea. You did great. Do not be too concerned about mom not understanding or appreciating your projects. There are some people who do not appreciate crafts. I gave a pillow I made away to a cousin and she did not seem interested at all. I even needlepoint it and loved it and almost hated giving it away, but I did. I learned them not to give handmade stuff to people who do not appreciate it - this way I won't be upset. I know too many people who appreciate home-made gifts.
ReplyDeleteBecky, I bought your tutorial and made two of these for Christmas gifts--one was to my mom. She said she liked it. I put pictures of her grandkids in it, so she couldn't NOT like it--but she reminds me a lot of your mom. The other was to my son's girlfriend. She went crazy with happiness-jumping up to give me a hug when she saw it. She loved it. Thank you so much for sharing your creative ideas. It made my Christmas wonderful.
