I've been wanting to make a birthday organizer for a long time now. January is flying by so I thought I better make it a priority this weekend! The box measures 5 1/2" x 3 3/4" x 1 1/2"
2. Score the short side at 3 3/4" and 5 1/4".
3. Score the long side at 1 1/2" and 7". fold on the score lines shape into a box.
4. Before assembling, I cut the opening so you can see the contents. I measured in about a 1/2" on each side and down about 1" from the top. I used my paper cutter to cut out that little section. Assemble the box with Sticky Strip.
5. Lid cardstock is 5 1/8" x 9 1/8" of Certainly Celery.
6. Score at 1 3/4" all around. Cut all 4 sides up to the intersecting score line,
7. Use the scallop edge punch to scallop the bottom of all 4 sides and that takes it up to the length you need it to cover the opening.
8. The monthly divider cards are 3 1/4" x 5 1/4" in Chocolate Chip cardstock with Round Tab Punch computer generated months.
9. I used Microsoft Publisher to make the index cards. They measure about 3 1/8" x 5 1/8"... if you cut them straight ;)
10. Embellish as desired!
Showing all the different pieces. The index card has a place for name, birthday, favorites and a photo of the birthday person.

I've shared with you a time or two about my boys and our stairway they think is a play ground. Well...it continues...
Nicholas got a new mattress and of course there is only one way to get it down the stairs, right?
Mattress Surfing!!!!!
Perhaps you'll notice the stairway's very plain undecorated walls. I've given up over the years and all our various stairway issues...it remains undecorated and safe of framed glass for a reason! :)
Benjamin, my forever chicken and oh-so-cautious 12 year old.
Nicholas, my forever confident and free spirited 9 year old.
Wow this is a fabulous organizer. This is one thing I really need to make also. Wow looks like the boys have fun on the stairs. I couldn't let my girls do this, cuz my DH would want to do too. LOL
ReplyDeleteand THIS is why I live in a ONE story house! I also have a 12 and 9 year old boy! and YES.. do gotta love em!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!! What a cute idea to have an index card with a picture and info on it!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the mattress surfing...super fun!!!
Here is my stairway story - my 12 year old boy also decided to try some new ways coming down the stairs - he got a sleeping bag one of those slick ones and he got inside to see how fast he could go down our back stairs. He got going so fast that he couldn't stop at the bottom and put his foot right through the wall!
ReplyDeletecute bday organizer becky.
ReplyDeleteyour boys are a riot! they're too cute.
you could try decor elements on the walls . . . flat, safe and pretty. :)

ReplyDeleteI refuse to show your pics to my
10yo son - he'll start nagging for a 2nd storey again - LOL. Thinking about it I'm sure is 16yo sister and 40+yo dad would think the idea cool too!!!
I like that you have the person's picture on the index card for your bday file. Great idea! AND, the boy-style Princess-Diary-style method of getting down stairs - gotta' love it! I especially like it when Julie Andrews does it in Princess Diary :)
ReplyDeleteLove the organizer. The stair surfing looks like fun! LOL And it's not just boys. :)

ReplyDeleteGreat project - thanks for the measurements! Luckily our computer desk is at the bottom of the stairs - no one is willing to risk that being destroyed!
ReplyDeleteBecky, your birthday organizer is very cute and practical.
ReplyDeleteI have to chuckle at your boys mattress surfing. This is exactly the kind of stuff my boys too. I have a Nicholas too and a Sam. They ride blankets and cardboard down our stairs. They have even convinced me to try it! Boys are something!
This is a super cute organizer, I just love the idea of having the little cards with their favorites on them, I can already see a new tradition of sitting down at Christmas with all of the family and having everyone fill out their cards. Thanks again for another fabulous idea.
