My Filming Nook

When I posted my year in review I had people click over to see my stamp space remodel and lots of inquiries about my filming area.  I thought today I would show that to you and explain what I use.

I am set up at the very end of our bonus room and it's pretty dark.  There is no natural light or window there. I had no idea what would work for me, so I bought a complete kit.  I don't use it all, but I am still glad I have it all and this is why...
-I would have had to buy the backdrop and clamps separately.
-I would have had to experiment with the lighting system and not knowing anything about them, I bought the kit with both to try them out.
-Best of all is that it comes in a compact carrying cases and the whole thing could basically fit under your bed if you needed to store it.

I found that the Softbox lights were really the ones that worked best for me.  However, when multiple people are on camera, I use them all.

I set up the backdrop, which is huge, and you can expand it to 10 ft.  I have mine set at about 4 ft because I don't need that much backdrop.  I use the white backdrop cloth (it comes with green, black and white) and then threw a piece of fabric over it.  I used the clamps to hold it at the top.  You can see them in the photo, but you cannot see them in filming.  Here's a hint...it's much easier to hang your fabric if you don't buy one that has a pattern to be lined up.
Then I decorated it with paper flowers...what else! LOL  I have since removed the create sign because I don't have to worry about flipping the camera so the text is correct. *Ü*

Lift Your Table folding table risers Extenders - converts Folding Tables to Bar/Demo Height Work Surface, Non-Slip Foot, Black

When I first set this up, I used my 6' folding table and leg risers that I use at all trade and craft shows.  It elevates your table to standing height, which I prefer.  For those events, it works just fine, but for filming, I could see the table wiggling slightly on camera and it really didn't look very well.  You don't notice that when you are using it in person, but it sure showed on camera.  Maybe my table is well loved and not too sturdy, so I've added the links to the risers if you want to try that first.

I decided to buy a tall table, which is actually a breakfast nook without the chairs. This thing is SOLID and weighs a ton and is not going anywhere!  I love this table!!!!

If you are standing as close to your phone as I am, you don't really need a microphone, but why take the chance of having to re-film something when they are this inexpensive!
Mats are a dime a dozen, but I wanted a pink one.  This is the one I purchased.

This is the stand I use for my phone.  I shoot all things with my iPhone X.  I love this stand and highly recommend it whether you are shooting video or pictures.
I also purchased the iPad mount so I could mount my iPad on the stand to see where I am during Facebook Lives and to see comments coming in.  This is super handy but definitely not necessary.

My view on most days when I'm filming.  Daphne is so much help...but at least she is quiet when she is sleeping, so no complaints here!

Clicking on the shopping cart now takes you to my ordering page, where you can choose from various companies to place orders.

  1. Thank you Becky for all the info about your filming area. I am just starting my own blog and have been struggling with the photographs. I have wondered if I should buy the same type of equipment. My pictures seem to turn out dark, and I am not good at editing them at this point. Definitely a weakness of mine. I've put it off though as I thought it would take a lot of space in my home. I see from your pictures that it can be out of the way and not take up a lot of space! Thank you for sharing! P.S. I, too, am from Idaho. I was stoked to see a blogger that had a beautiful site with great information from our state!
